Formulas & Structures

CyteEditor Pro supports math formulas and chemical structures. Both render natively in the editor and export to Word with high fidelity. A Pro license is required — see Pricing.

Inserting a formula

Click the Formula button in the toolbar. The dialog has two editing modes:

  • Visual — type LaTeX directly and watch it render as you type: x_i becomes a subscript the moment you type it.
  • Source — edit the raw LaTeX string, handy for pasting a formula you already have.

Choose Inline to flow the formula within a text line, or Block to place it on its own centered line. A collapsible Preview shows the rendered result.

Templates

The Templates tab ships ready-made chips grouped by category:

  • Basic — fraction, square root, n-th root, absolute value, logarithm, matrix, piecewise function
  • Calculus — integral, sum, product, derivative
  • Complex numbers — modulus, argument, real & imaginary part

Each template fills the input with a skeleton containing placeholder boxes. Press Tab to jump from one placeholder to the next and type your values. The Symbols panel offers common glyphs (×, ±, ≤, ∞ …) for quick insertion.

LaTeX quick reference

To typeUse
Subscriptx_i
Superscriptx^2
Sub + superscriptx_i^2
Fraction\frac{a}{b}
Square root\sqrt{x}
n-th root\sqrt[n]{x}
Sum\sum_{i=1}^{n}
Integral\int_{a}^{b}
Limit\lim_{x \to 0}
Greek letters\alpha \beta \theta \pi
Operators & relations\times \cdot \pm \neq \leq \geq \infty
Auto-sized delimiters\left( \frac{a}{b} \right)

Chemical formulas (mhchem)

Chemistry uses the mhchem syntax, rendered natively in both modes. Switch to the Chemistry tab for ready-made chips — Molecule, Reaction, Ion, Equilibrium — or type \ce{...} directly:

\ce{H2O}
\ce{SO4^2-}
\ce{2H2 + O2 -> 2H2O}
\ce{N2 + 3H2 <=> 2NH3}

Drawing structures

For full molecular structures, click the Structure button in the toolbar. A visual canvas opens where you draw with bonds, ring templates, and element tools. The finished drawing is inserted into the document as crisp vector graphics and stays editable — double-click it to reopen the canvas.

Exporting to Word

  • Formulas export as native Word equations (OMML) and remain fully editable in Word. Constructs that Word equations cannot represent fall back to high-resolution images automatically; an export report lists every fallback so you can locate it in the document.
  • Structures export as vector graphics with a raster fallback — they stay sharp at any zoom in Word 2016+ and WPS.
